When you think of going to summer camp in Hawaii, the potential for fun speaks for itself. In many cases, parents want to make sure their kids will learn to surf when signing up for Aloha Beach Camp's Hawaii summer camp experience. The short answer is, "Of course!"  Surfing was invented in Hawaii. We wouldn't let your child miss it!

How Aloha Beach Camp Hawaii's Surfing Activity Works

Campers will learn to surf at world-famous Waikiki Beach. It's a great place to learn to surf because it's a beginner-friendly beach with small, long, rolling gentle waves with a soft sandy bottom.

Our certified camp counselor/surf instructions will have surfboards on hand that are appropriate for your camper's size, experience and skill level. Our staff will give your child a surfing lesson which will include the basics of surfing including paddle technique, popping up onto the board, and riding the wave.

At first, campers will learn to surf on the sand, gradually moving into the shallow ocean water and then moving out to catch bigger waves.

As campers improve, our staff will encourage them to continue to challenge themselves by trying new techniques and riding different types of waves.

Aloha Beach Camp Hawaii's surfing activities include safety lessons and surf etiquette as well. Campers will learn how to become aware of their surroundings and follow beach, wave and ocean safety guidelines, such as staying within designated swimming areas and respecting other surfers.

What Does Surfing Feel Like?

Surfing is thrilling!

As the waves crash onto the shore, your child will feel the excitement and anticipation building inside them. They will strap on their wetsuit and grab their surfboard, ready to take on the ocean. Their surf camp instructors will give them a quick lesson on surfing technique and safety, and then they will head out into the water.

At first, the waves may seem intimidating. It is not uncommon for kids to struggle to catch them at first. But with each try, your camper get the hang of it.

As they paddle hard and pop up onto their surfboard, your child will feel the rush of the wind and the spray of the water in their face. As they ride the waves and improve their surfing technique, they will feel a sense of freedom and exhilaration like nothing they've ever experienced before.

Eventually, your child will catch the perfect wave. It may be a big wave, or a small one. It may be a powerful wave that towers over them as they paddle towards it. Or maybe it will be a gentle wave. Either way, your child will take a deep breath and go for it, paddling hard and popping up onto their board. The wave will carry them along. They will feel like they're flying. They will surf the wave all the way from the ocean to the shore, where they will come to a triumphant stop in the sand.

Imagine the sense pride and accomplishment they will feel! Surfing with us at Aloha Beach Camp Hawaii this summer will be a thrilling experience your child will never forget.
